I don't want to be overly political but I feel people should know this as it is not being widely publicized in the media.
Senator Obama's positions on abortion are far more extreme than those of most Americans. He has said that his first act as president would be to sign FOCA (the Freedom of Choice Act). In addition, he has taken an extreme position on post abortion medical care for babies who survive abortion. Here's a two part summary with links. PART I. FOCA In July 2007, Senator Obama made a pro choice speech to Planned Parenthood and, in the Q&A session at the end, he stated that his first act as president would be to sign FOCA. So what is FOCA? FOCA is a proposed federal statute sponsored by Senator Obama which would accomplish four goals: (1) Codify Roe v. Wade. (2) Provide federal taxpayer funding through abortion. (3) Void all state laws and regulations prohibiting or restricting abortion. (4) Provide civil penalties for anyone who denies a woman the right to abortion. I'm not sure whether pro-life doctors and nurses who refuse to perform abortions could be penalized under paragraph 4. I think this paragraph is aimed at Catholic hospitals that refuse to allow abortions. Full Text of Senator Obama's speech to Planned Parenthood (see Q&A session at end for discussion of FOCA) http://lauraetch.goog... NRL site links to FOCA text: http://www.nrlc.org/F... PART II: Infanticide? In some late term abortions, the fetus/baby survives for several hours after being separated from the mother's body. Because current medical technology for preemies is so good and continues to improve, this presents a problem. Possibly some of these fetus/babies could survive the abortion and live to grow up if medical care were provided? So should we provide medical care or not? Pro life people say medical care should be required and even pro choice people gulp at the idea of denying medical care to a fetus/baby that remains alive after being fully separated from the mother's body. While Obama was in the Illinois state senate, bills were proposed to require medical care for fetuses/babies that survive an abortion. Senator Obama fought aggressively against these bills. The details of Senator Obama's votes are reported in a news article published n the Jerusalem Post, quoted in full in link below. http://www.jillstanek... Which raises a separate question, why hasn't this information been published in the American media? |
